Abstract : A preliminary study was conducted to investigate the effects of green berry, stem and root of Solarium Mourn against juveniles of house frequenting mosquito species Culex quinquefasciatus Say. Studies on fourth tar larvae revealed that all extracts showed evidence of promising larvicidal activity. Extracts of green berry, stem and root of S. villosum had LC50 values of 0.155, 0.043 and 0.263 m1/1-1 respectively (24 h). When each larval stage was ‘ated with successive extracts at their LC50 values, all three extracts delayed larval development. Qualitative analysis of the phytochemicals of aqueous extracts revealed the presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids and saponins in the plant parts.
