Blue green algae and human health

Abstract : Cyanobacteria (also known as Blue green algae) are a fascinating and versatile group of microbes of immense biological importance originated 3.5 billion years ago. Blue green algae have a considerable and ever increasing impact on social economical and environmental aspects of human life and society. Cyanobacterial toxins can produce health and environmental hazards in water and affect potability of water and recreational purposes. Human are affected with a Cyanobacterial toxin which causes skin irritation, stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, fever, sore throat, muscle and joint pain, blisters of the mouth and liver damage.
