Abstract : Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni, the most valuable tropical medicinal plant, belongs to the family Asteraceae. Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni var. SRB – 512 was selected for the koryo-morphological studies. Karyotype of variety SRB-512 was studied, utilizing root tip metaphases. The variety was diploid with 2n=22 chromosomes. Eleven pairs of chromosomes were recorded. The chromosomes were nearly median and nearly submedian type.
