Abstract: The present study deals with the effect of sewage release in four water bodies on the distribution and morphological variations of Oedogonium. Individual specimens with morphological variations in shape, size, chloroplast pattern, abnormal morphology etc were encountered. It was concluded that Oedogonium is a pollution tolerant species with rapid adaptability. They are quite abundant in this region but faces survival threat due to pollution load as evident from the occurrence of abnormal forms. The morphological alterations encountered are not heritable as confirmed by cultural experiments.
