Toxicity of an organophosphorous pesticide, Radar, on an exotic air breathing teleost Clarias gariepinus (Burchell).

Abstract: Use of an organophosphorous pesticide toxicity on fish farming has been problem of concern amongst aquaculture biologists. The present work has been undertaken to assess the toxicity of pesticide in terms of behavioral response and mortality of fish. The LC50 /96 hr and LC 100 96 hr. doses of the chemical for the fish was 75 ppm and 95 ppm respectively. It was noted that the pesticide Radar is comparatively less toxic to other organophosphorous pesticide available in the market. As such, its use may be preferred in the agricultural fields because it would have less detrimental effects on fish aquaculture.
