An ethno-zoological survey of some insects used in the treatment of epilepsy in the Angara block of Jharkhand

Abstract: Angara block is situated in Ranchi district of Jharkhand. It is about 35 Kms away from Ranchi town towards east. Village Vaidyas of this area use various insects and insect products either alone or with combination of some herbs to treat various diseases. The aim of the last two years of investigation is to collect samples and obtain knowledge about their medicinal uses. Specimens have been collected after proper survey covering remote tribal areas of Angara block . The documentation about the medicinal uses of these less utilized resources have been made through questionnaire and personal interviews of Vaidyas, Pahans , old knowledgeable Persons (MKP) and cured patients . Present paper reveals about only such insects used in the treatment of epilepsy by local people along with their combinant and host herbs.
