Abstract : The inadequate and unscientific municipal solid waste management practices and the poor state of sanitation m most cities of the developing countries have resulted into the pollution of the environment: contamination of both surface and ground water which is in turn a serious human health risk. This study aimed at investigating the effect of Indiscriminate municipal solid wastes dumping on water resources with specific focus on faecal contamination in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand state. The results revealed that most of the ponds of west singhbhum are highly contaminated. The study concluded that the poor municipal solid waste management is posing high risk to the human health and the environment. The present work will deal with the difficulties and suggestions for improvement regarding the solid waste management. It will provide the readers knowledge about the present solid waste management system along with some suggestions for future.
