Abstract : Though liver and kidney are the primary target organs of most of the pollutants including pesticides, at the same time reproductive organs of aquatic fauna including fishes can not remain isolated from their harmful effects owing to their sensitivity. In the present study attempt has been made to assess the toxic effect of pesticide, Kedett – 36 on the gonadal cycle of a fresh water fish, Channa striatus. A gradual decrease in the body weight, ovary weight, ova diameter and GSI was found in fishes exposed to sub – lethal concentration of the pesticide showing an indication of ovarian damage.
