Abstract : With the identification of first olfactory receptor gene in mammal, the classical understanding of olfactory communication has grown rapidly over the last one decade. The present review intends to focus on the chemistry of mammalian pheromons and its complimentary role in the main and accessory olfactory systems. As a result, the pheromonal responses in animals in general and mammals in particular are substantially mediated through olfaction.
