Abstract : The present study records the morphotaxonomy of some lepidopterans collected from two places at Ranchi. The butterflies ( order — Lepidoptera, sub-order Ditrysia, super family Papilionoidea) belonging to three different families such as Papilionidae, Pieridae and Nymphalidae are identified. The life cycle of few selected butterflies are traced to find different generations. Seasonal variation and polyphenism are discussed with recent available literature.
