AbstractPineal organ is thought to be the seat of soul. In early vertebrate the pineal organ is photo sensory organ although during evolution it is transformed into an endocrine gland that secretes a hormone called melatonin. The main cellular component of fish pineal shared many features with the cone photoreceptor of retina. The pineal is located dorsal to the forebrain below or within skull roof. Pineal epithelium consists of photoreceptor cells neurons and ependymal interstitial cells.
