Abstract : From preindustrial period the human population has increased enormously and the invention of sophisticated equipments has uplifted the living standard of human being. Energy is the prerequisite for survival and development and 100% reduction in carbon dioxide are impossible without devastating effects on the economy. Even the most ambitious carbon dioxide reduction strategies fall short of cutting emission by half under Kyoto protocol. Secondly the multilateral treaty in Montreal protocol to protect the Ozone layer by replacing CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons) by HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) will not bring relief on global warming front. Since, they are super-green-house gases with an extremely high global warming potential. It is argued that unless HFCs phased out along with HCFCs, the impact on global warming will be severe.
Keywords: Carbon Dioxide, Global warming.
