Abstract : Burnpur (Asansol) is one of the most important industry based town of West-Bengal. The people residing in the villages surrounding Burnpur consume some hydrophytic plant, known as pot herb (sag).These pot herb exhibit luxuriant growth in the ponds which get effluents from the IISCO steel plant.These pot herb are sold in village & town markets and have  high nutritious value. Authors have surveyed those villages with an aim to identify those pot herb which grow in polluted water and can  serve as phytoremediator  & to get information about the medicinal values of different pot herb.
