Abstract : This paper presents quality of water samples from bored tube wells at different stations in Muzaffarpur town. The parameters studied were Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Copper, Iron, Zinc, Arsenic and Nitrate besides several physico-chemical parameters and the chemical quality was compared with a series of national and international standards pertaining to drinking water. The chemical analysis of samples revealed that Iron was much beyond the maximum permissible limit of WHO in almost all the samples and other water quality parameters were also present beyond the respective permissible levels at some sampling sites. Significantly, Arsenic was found to be above the maximum permissible level at some sites especially those near the river Budhi Gandak.
