Abstract : In the tribe Detarieae, only two species viz., Saraca indica Linn. and Tamarindus indica Linn. have been recorded from Patna District. Saraca indica Linn. is distinguished from Tamarindus indica Linn. in possessing apetalous and incomplete flowers. It has 6–8 fertile stamens, which are free, exserted and form a ring at the top of each calyx–tube giving the flower clusters a hairy appearance, whereas the flowers of Tamarindus indica Linn. has three petals, short calyx–tube and 3 fertile stamens, the filaments connate high up into a sheath (monadelphous)  with upper part free. Both the species displays rich morphological diversity.
