Abstract : The study of earlier literatures (Sundararaj (1981); David E. Kime (1995); Patino R, Sullivan CV (2002); Ghosh and Nath (2005) and P. Nath et al (2007) reveal that the teleost fishes are seasonal breeders and they spawn generally in summer monsoon. The present study focuses on the variation in the general pattern of four reproductive phase, viz. preparatory, pre-spawning, spawning and post spawning periods and reports two occasions of spawning, one during May-June and other during September-October, and stresses the need for further study on  the role of physical, chemical, social and environmental clues involved in steroidogenesis led ripening and spawning.
