Abstract : The anatomical architecture of brain of the red cotton bug, Dysdercus cingulatus reflects the occurrence of an unusual conspicuous sized bilobed structure on the dorsal surface of pars intercerebralis zone of protocerebrum. It shows clear resemblance with similar structure present in cockroach and established as the mushroom bodies or corpora pedunculata. However, the structure in cockroach is reportedly trilobed with well grown peduncle or stalk. The observation in the present research is nevertheless contrary to the earlier reports in Heteropteran insects where it is said to be vestigeal.
