Biodiversity of Anopheline mosquitoes from western ghats of Maharashtra (India)

Abstract : Western Ghats contain very rich flora and fauna and very potential place for breeding Anopheline mosquitoes. The foothills of the Western Ghats were once hyperendemic for malaria. The survey of Anopheline mosquitoes was carried out during the years 2006 to 2009 from the places Sawantwadi, Amboli, Kankawali, Vaibhavwadi, Phonda and Radhanagari. Total 4106 mosquitoes were collected among the 28species. Out of which  Anopheles culicifacies, Anopheles theobaldi and Anopheles subpictus were found abundant.
