Abstract : Butterfly diversity in the Hehal ranchi was surveyed for a period of twelve months (April 2007 to March 2008) from shrubaceous localities of Hehal block. A total of 19 species belonging to 5 families were collected. The statistical interpretations were done using Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Shannon’s equitability and margalef’s index. The habitat degradation, lack of conservation approach and pollution have led to the low profile of butterfly diversity in this region. The Species richness and abundance were also low.
