Cytotaxonomic studies on some varieties of Hordeum vulgare L.

Abstract : Hordeum vulgare L. an important crop plant belonging to family Poaceae was taken to study cytotaxonomy. Four varieties of Hordeum vulgare L. viz var. IVT – BARLEY – 8JB – 124 – 30, var. RD – 2712, var. RD – 2752 and var. AVHTZ – IBR – RIII70 were considered. All the four varieties have 2n = 2x = 14 chromosomes with nearly metacentric and submetacentric chromosomes. Variety IVT – BARLEY – 8JB – 124 – 30 was considered primitive one and AVHTZ – IBR – RIII70 as advance.
