Abstract : Exposures of Vth instar silkworm larvae, Bombyx mori.L., with lethal dose of selenium for 3,4, 5, 6 days caused a hyperglycemic and hyperlactaemic condition in silkworm. Further a marked decrease was observed in the activities of dehydrogenase enzymes in haemolymph and fat body of lethal dose treated silkworm larvae as compared to those found in normal larvae. It was also observed that the changes were more pronounced with increase in the period of exposure in lethal dose treated larvae. However, silkworm exposed to sub lethal dose of selenium could not exhibit significant alterations in carbohydrate metabolism when compared to controls except on 3rd day. It seems that a significant recovery was observed on 4th day onwards by the detoxification mechanisms in fat body and haemolymph.
