Abstract : The effect of chemical mutagen ethyl methane sulphonate  on seed germination  was investigated  in two varieties of Lycopersicon esculentum Mill i. e. Local Variety and Variety Selection 22. Germination percentage were recorded for five different concentration of EMS (0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%. 0.4%, and 0.5%) in M1 and M2 generation. Percentage germination decreased significantly as compared to control in various concentration of EMS in both the varieties. The Variety Selection 22 was found to be more sensitive towards the effect of EMS whereas the Local Variety was resistant.
