Abstract : Guava (Psidium guajava L.) a poorman apple and delicious fruit in India. Originated in tropical America and belongs to the family Myrtaceae. It is one of the most important, common and nutritious fruits. Its fruits have unique delightful taste, flavour, a rich source of vitamin ‘C’ and pectin. In fact it is quite popular fruit for each class of people in our country. The considerable losses were observed in the guava orchards in river bed areas. Therefore, experiments were laidout in Dayanand Girls P. G. College and river bed areas of Bithoor, Kanpur during 2003-2004. In guava varieties Dacus dorsalis H. showed the preference to damage the fruits. It was found from the data that ‘F’ value for the varieties is highly significant at 0.1 per cent level. This indicates that all the five varieties differ from one another significantly. It is only evident that the ‘F’ value for the periods is highly significant at 0.1 level of significance. This indicates that the periods also differ from one another significantly. The interaction effects of the varieties and the periods were also found significant at 1 per cent level of significance and this indicated that the varietal effect was significantly changing from period to period. Results were found interesting in respect of infestation and fruit production in guava crop.
